*GULP* Well, we did it! @vanessa_peters and I took the plunge and closed on a house in Italy today. This is the former podere (farm) of San Colombano, now affectionately dubbed “The People’s Revolutionary Democratic Republic of San Colombano.”
This wonderful place will become not only our future home and recording studio / shop but also 2-3 tourist rental apartments in the future. For the time being, it’s going to get a complete renovation.
I’m not going to be posting progress reports here, but you can see a lot more photos and keep up with the progress of the renovations by following @poderesancolombano.
Today we went some places and saw some things, most notably the almost abandoned town of Vico Pancellorum – now a home to expatriate artists – and the nearby suspension footbridge.

We ate some things tonight. 20 different items Deets in my story.
Today was an amazing surprise. As @vanessa_peters explained in her post, we had reason to visit the @lamarzocco Accademia del caffè Espresso in #Florence. I didn’t know what to expect, and I was blown away. Part coffee lab, part roastery, part museum, and an amazing repair and machine shop. It was a delight and I wish I could have spent more time there.
Besides a gorgeous collection of classic machines and rooms full of exhibits describing the art and science of coffee growing, roasting, and extraction, the museum featured the original custom van built by the Bambi brothers to sell their machines out on the road — more than just a display, it was a complete rolling coffee bar! There was also a rather astonishing Rube Goldberg contraption by artist Charles Morgan built from machine parts.
Unfortunately we had only an hour to spend there. I could have spent all day. Hats off to @lamarzocco / @lamarzoccohome for creating a truly beautiful and magical shrine to the art of speciality coffee.
Tonight @vanessa_peters and the #Electrofonics // #Bologna #Italy (but without Patteo ). Soundcheck was loud! Tonight we rock!
