THIS IS NOT A DRILL
To all of my friends: I’m sorry that I am using this space to share my outage at my fellow Americans who have lost their way. It is not how I want to use this space. But we can no longer afford to remain silent and pretend everything will be okay.
This is about so much more than abortion. Abortion was merely the political wedge issue used to mobilize support for reversal of so-called “judicial activism” or “legislation from the bench.”
Now that the judicial precedent has been set, they are already queuing up to reverse decades of other established judicial precedent, including but not limited to the right of a married woman to seek contraception without the permission of her husband, the right to privacy in the bedroom (reinstitution of sodomy laws), and even the right of racial minorities to equal treatment under the law (reinstitution of “separate but equal”).
THIS IS NOT HYPERBOLE. This is exactly what they’re saying they’re going to do! This is the face of fascism in America, and they’re coming for your rights. “But I don’t want an abortion, I’m not gay, and I’m not Black,” is not an argument. Your neighbor’s rights are your own, because history shows it never stops at your neighbor’s house.
There can be only one solution to this and that is to show up at the polls in absolutely overwhelming numbers this November and vote against every single member of this fascist party from the local dog-catcher all the way up the ticket. This has to be stopped dead in its tracks in November. We must say NO to this with a single, overwhelming, unified voice.
And then we must demand codification of all of these rights at the national level — with a Constitutional amendment if possible. We cannot trust 9 politically biased hacks to do the job. It was wrong to sit on our laurels for so long in the first place.
The lesson of history is that fascism isn’t something you both-sides. Fascism has to be stopped the moment it crawls out from under the rock from which it hides. There can be no seat at the table for these people who want to revert the last 60+ years of progress.
