In Florence, where “lock up the shop” takes on a whole new meaning: this jewelry storefront is safeguarded by a beautiful custom made wood/steel enclosure.

What has been the soundtrack to your pandemic? For us, it’s definitely been Bill Evans, one of the towering figures in jazz piano. Most nights we listen to hours upon hours of Bill. Favorite album: Explorations (1961)

It’s coming! The new @vanessa_peters album “Modern Age” is in the pipeline and on its way to global release April 23rd on Idol Records. Pre-orders open February 26th on Bandcamp – we’ll be releasing our first single “Crazymaker” the same day! Stay tuned to my feed for upcoming announcements.

We began this project over a year ago while we were on tour. I brought along some recording gear so that we could cut some demos of some new stuff Vanessa was working on. Everyone was super excited about the material, and in February of last year we launched a Kickstarter to crowdfund the album with big plans to bring the band to record with @joereyesmusic and @coil_audio in the wizard’s lair in Austin.

Just days after our Kickstarter was funded, Italy discovered it was ground zero of the European covid outbreak, and within another two weeks (just as we were supposed to start a European tour) we were locked down for the next three months. With our recording plans busted, we scrambled to come up with a Plan B. We decided to repurpose our demos and record some new material in Italy and finish the album DIY. We finished the recording in a stone farmhouse in Castiglion Fiorentino and mixed it in our attic in Lucca. Golden ears @mcsnare mastered the final mixes in December, and Dallas’s @idolrecords picked up the album for release this spring.

More than any record I’ve ever made, this album was a labor of love, blood, sweat, and tears. It was the most challenging project I’ve ever undertaken, and I couldn’t be more happy about the results. Our band – @ciancaguitar, @matteo_patrone, and @andrea_colicchia – brought tons of energy and fresh ideas, and Vanessa is in 100% top form with great songs and singing. The result is a super-energetic pop/rock record the likes of which you’ve never heard from VP. I can’t wait to share the final result with you! Stay tuned to my feed over the next few weeks for all the deets.

Today we hiked to Le Parole d’Oro (The Golden Words, the meaning of which is made clear on the second video) and had a lovely picnic in the unusually warm weather. This beautiful place was completed in 1851 and is the engineering marvel of Lorenzo Nottolini.

This series of man-made aquaducts brings water from a group of springs to a set of storage tanks, and from there along a 3km aquaduct to the city of Lucca where it feeds a number of public water fountains. The water is incredibly pure (we measure 30-40 PPM TDS) and the catchment area that you see in these videos is, in a word, idyllic.

The sound of the falling water and the perfect green landscape is hypnotic and relaxing. Be sure to swipe to the last video which really gives a sense of the peacefulness and beauty of this place.
