✴️✴️Link in bio ✴️✴️ Greetings from #quarantine! First things first: no this song wasn’t written about the pandemic, but it sure feels like it was. We recorded the audio for this song during our demo sessions in Germany last November. We were supposed to be in the studio in Austin next week to track the album for real, but obviously that isn’t happening. So instead we decided to make a video of ourselves playing the song.

Here’s a survival tip from someone who’s been in isolation now for 20 days, and we’re looking at another 20+. Stay positive! Avoid getting sucked into the Bad News Cycle. There is going to be a lot of bad news that, at least for the time being, you’re going to be completely powerless to stop. Don’t perseverate. You control what messages you feed your brain.

There will be a time later for mourning and for well-deserved pitchforks, but for now, please put your own mental health first. This is going to be a long ride. Read books. Listen to music. Paint. Sketch. Write a chapter for that novel you’ve wanted to write. Exercise. Eat well. Love yourself. Love your neighbor.

We’ve still got time on this earth. Make the best of it.

This is going to be an uncomfortable post but it must be said. Sometimes, love looks like telling people things they don’t want to hear.

Let me start by saying trust me when I tell you I’m sympathetic. We’re currently effectively under house arrest in Italy. The only reason we’re in Italy right now was to play a series of shows, which got canceled. Now we’re locked down in Italy, and cannot return to the USA where we were booked to record a new album, which has now been postponed indefinitely. So yeah, I get it. I really do.
.
That said, my feed remains full of many musicians and authors who are bound and determined to go through with their concerts, book signings, and other social / promotional events regardless of the consequences.
.
It’s time to start publicly shaming these events. The USA has been lulled into a false sense of security due in no small part by a failure of our public officials and the media outlets which pander to them by repeating their lies and the minimizations. NOTHING is under control except the facts. The actual numbers of infected are MUCH higher than what is being reported. America is sailing into a heathcare tsunami.

The ONLY way to control this pandemic is SOCIAL DISTANCING. If you are responsible for encouraging social gatherings, then you share responsibility for any negative outcomes. Consider: in Italy, as I write this, you can get charged with murder for holding an event that leads to someone contracting a fatal case of this disease.

Folks, Italy isn’t an “outlier.” It’s a FRONTRUNNER.
.
Public gatherings of any kind must be stopped now, before its too late to save the nation’s hospitals. If the federal government, the state, the city, or the club owners won’t stop these events, then the artists must do so.

How to explain the problem of #coronavirus to your friends and family who believe the numbers of infected to be small and insignificant.
Viruses like coronavirus where there is no natural immunity and an R0 of 2-3 begin their lives following a curve that is very closely fitted by an exponential curve, like the lily pad. As they saturate into a population, the curve becomes sigmoid – that is, instead of curving up towards infinity, they flatten, as the virus saturates into the population.
This thought experiment is not intended to predict how quickly everyone will catch coronavirus. It is intended to demonstrate what that first phase looks like, namely: how the actual numbers can remain deceptively low until they’re suddenly shockingly high.

With no well-studied treatment and a viable vaccine still being out at least another year, the only effective way to keep the coronavirus epidemic at bay is to give the virus less chances of spreading. The following list of actions, ordered from easiest to implement to most effective in the fight against the pandemic, should serve as a set of loose guidelines for people who wish to join the movement and take action, where the people in charge continue to neglect.
Don’t panic, but be alert.
Wash your hands often and practice good cough and sneeze etiquette.
Try to touch your face as little as possible, including your mouth, nose, and eyes.
Practice social distancing, no hugs and kisses, no handshakes, no high fives. If you must, use safer alternatives.
Do not attend concerts, stage plays, sporting events, or any other mass entertainment events.
Refrain from visiting museums, exhibitions, movie theaters, night clubs, and other entertainment venues.
Stay away from social gatherings and events, like club meetings, religious services, and private parties.
Reduce your amount of travel to a minimum. Don’t travel long distances if not absolutely necessary.
Do not use public transportation if not absolutely necessary.
If you can work from home, work from home. Urge your employer to allow remote work if needed.
Replace as many social interactions with remote alternatives like phone calls or video chat.
Do not leave your home if not absolutely necessary.
Please keep in mind there is no right or wrong amount of actions to take. Only take the actions that you feel comfortable with and that do not endanger your livelihood. Do not quit your job over this! However, keep in mind that every action helps.

Greetings from Italy. This is a post for all of the “business as usual” friends and followers back home that I see in my feed on a daily basis. I want everyone to please internalize the message in this post. Whether or not YOU are in one of high risk categories for COVID-19, there nevertheless exists an ethical responsibility to contain this disease.

What this means is that if you’re carrying on with your social events, including concerts, you may become responsible for contributing to the spread of this disease, and the coming healthcare tsunami. My friends, there is not a healthcare system in the world that’s prepared for what’s coming. Every person has a duty to do their part to slow down the spread of COVID-19. Complacency and American Exceptionalism is not a viable solution.

I myself am in a medium risk category: I have high blood pressure and am very prone to lung infections. If I get this disease, and there is not a ventilator available, it could be very dangerous, even fatal. And every hospital system in the world is going to run out of ventilators in the next few weeks.

“Try to have pity on the myriad of old people you could exterminate.” The best time to have slammed on the brakes was a week or more ago, before the virus spread across the USA. The second best time to slam on the brakes is now. Please, don’t put people at risk. Avoid, don’t encourage, social contact.
