Is global warming dead?

Last March, NASA reported the oceans have been cooling for the last five years. Sea level has stopped rising, and Northern Hemisphere cyclone and hurricane activity is at a 24-year low.

Environmental extremists and global warming alarmists are in denial and running for cover. Their rationale for continuing a lost cause is that weather events in the short term are not necessarily related to long-term climatic trends. But these are the same people who screamed at us each year that ordinary weather events such as high temperatures or hurricanes were undeniable evidence of imminent doom.

I wonder how long it will be before this guy gets shot?

To the extent global warming was ever valid, it is now officially over. It is time to file this theory in the dustbin of history, next to Aristotelean physics, Neptunism, the geocentric universe, phlogiston, and a plethora of other incorrect scientific theories, all of which had vocal and dogmatic supporters who cited incontrovertible evidence.

Couldn’t agree more.

I tried to find that NASA report, but all I could find was this one, which was in September of 2006:

Short-Term Ocean Cooling Suggests Global Warming 'Speed Bump'

The average temperature of the water near the top of the Earth's oceans has significantly cooled since 2003. New research suggests global warming trends are not always steady in their effects on ocean temperatures.

Although the average temperature of the upper oceans has significantly cooled since 2003, the decline is a fraction of the total ocean warming over the previous 48 years.

...

You have this March release that the WT is talking about?

I'll look for it.

Coincidentally, I heard a news report this morning that the Earth has cooled 0.7 degrees in the past year, effectively reversing the last 100 years of warming.

Best I can tell, NASA produced a report then retracted it, and has since adjusted the numbers. Still looking.

I had heard a group of people here in India on TV saying the same stuff. But another group which comprises the most eminent group of scientist did not seem to agree with that theory. It is quite evident that the Global Warming is increasing, I don't know why we want to deny that. In my opinion we should rather try and reduce the carbon emissions we are producing each day so that we can better take care of the environment.

I see no reason to produce unnecessary carbon emissions. But as I pointed out in my article on CWSS, all we have now from policymakers and agitated environmentalists is a classic knee-jerk reaction to a complex problem.

More to come...

There is no reason to shoot him, he just does not understand the reports he is citing, which is not his fault, because those who wrote them did a very bad job explaining what their findings mean. I think it is important to realize that global warming has not been proven, until now its a theory, not a fact. But it has not been disproved in those reports or any other publication either; and declaring it 'officially over' is just wishful thinking.
